Roldanillo, in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca, is a well-known tropical paragliding destination. Its location near the equator means conditions depend on the dry and wet seasons rather than on summer and winter, and the valley has hosted national and international competitions.

Seasons

Colombia’s Andean valleys typically have two drier periods: roughly December to February and June to August. The shoulder months bring more rain and cloud. Because the climate is tropical, thermals can start early and run strongly.

What to expect

  • Warm, strong thermals, often with good cloud development in the afternoon.
  • A friendly, international pilot community, including competition pilots, and local schools that welcome visitors.
  • Flights along the valley ridge, with a mix of easy and demanding days.

Practical notes

  • High temperatures and humidity mean you need plenty of water and sun protection.
  • Afternoon storms can form quickly in the wet seasons, so plan to be on the ground in time.
  • Local rules and registrations: check with the local club for requirements, insurance and fees.
  • Health and travel: check current travel advice and vaccination recommendations for your country.

Who it suits

Intermediate and experienced pilots will enjoy it most. New pilots should fly with a local school.
